Project 52! Thirty

It would appear that a certain grey cat is not too thrilled with me right now. Do I blame her? Heck no! I would be pretty ticked to if I were a cat that had to visit the vet (which requires a two hour round trip ride in the car) twice in one week. A day after the seizure incident I didn't really feel like they really looked at her tail to see what was wrong with it and we had no game plan to care for it other than have her take an anti-inflammatory (I thought it was broken, fractured, or something.) The second vet after a thorough examination believes that she has a mass on her tail and would like an x-ray but would have to sedate her and would like to put that off until we get her teeth cleaned to save her some stress.

And now you see why Sophie is a little less than thrilled with me right now (she's starting to come around, but doesn't like me shoving pills down her throat). We are also working on a plan to re-socialize the cats so that they'll behave a bit better around each other, but until then Sophie is loving getting to live in our bedroom and bathroom.

Not according to plan

Yesterday I took Sophie to the vet. A couple weeks ago I noticed that her tail was bent a little about two inches from the base. Our appointment was yesterday and we headed out with plenty of time to spare and without much fuss about getting into the crate.

All was fine on the trip there. Sophie meowed like she always does during car rides. Throughout the drive I was thinking how I couldn't believe that I was going to the vet in Destin! I've wanted to live here for the longest time and it's finally happened, thanks to my husband. When we arrived I grabbed her crate and headed in.

I was two steps in the door when she started going crazy. For a moment I thought she was panicking about being in the pet store. When I peaked through the front I saw that she was having a seizure. Her body was quite rigid, she was laying on her side, and moving her legs as if she was running. I quickly ran to the back of the store to the vet's. I checked her out again before they snatched her up and got to work, and her eyes were dilated and she was drooling (not sure that's an accurate term when it comes to cats, but it wasn't vomit as it was clear.)

After about an hour medicine was given and she was returned to me obviously drugged. Not much was done about the tail, which I'm not too thrilled about. But she had a rough day and maybe x-rays weren't the best idea. Add to that we are going back next month so we can address it again then if it's still an issue.

I was sent home with meds to prevent seizures and an anti-inflammatory for her tail. Also instructions to keep her relaxed and away from Ivan until Wednesday morning. Unfortunately the only place that can house a litter box and give her space to roam free of Ivan and that is the master bed room and bath. I have a feeling that this will be a very noisy night, between Ivan wanting in and Sophie wanting out. Just waiting for Wednesday.

My poor Sophie. All doped up and trying so hard to relax.  :(
Instead of spending the evening unpacking and straightening I cuddled and comforted my poor sick "child". Somethings are more important than boxes.

Also I've seen adults seize before, but there's something about seeing a creature you care about shake and move so violently that scared the heck out of me...

Is there something in the water?

We've had a rather relaxing morning so far (me and the kitties, that is). And I can only hope that our little vet visit for Sophie today doesn't change that. Maybe it's the relaxed atmosphere, something in the water (I would imagine that drinking water that doesn't taste like dirt would make me feel better too), or a little more space to prowl is making my cats a little happier and a bit nicer to each other.

Oh, Your taking a picture? Let me shake my head like a dog...

Since we have a visit to the vet today I figured that it was in the best interest of the vet that I trim Sophie's claws. Since the addition of Ivan this has become quite the task. I usually start with Ivan so that he realizes what's going on and stays away during Sophie's turn. He gets irritated and bites me a little while struggling to free himself from my grasp. Then when he's done I sit with Sophie with the squirt bottle close. She is usually fairly cooperative but Ivan feels that while she is confined to my arms it is the perfect opportunity to attack Sophie, hence the squirt bottle to fend him off while I finish with Sophie. It isn't the perfect but it's been working since we added Ivan to our family.

This morning Ivan has been hanging out in the office and Sophie has been with me in the living room watching the last stage of the Tour (I've had to catch up on the days I missed with moving and going on vacation). And as Sophie was the closest and I was hoping that Ivan would be clueless to what was transpiring in the living room I took care of her nails first. It was like old times. There was the occasional growl to let me know I was a bit too close to the quick but other than that she did perfectly

Then it was Ivan's turn and I was completely prepared for the full on biting, fit throwing, fight that we usually have. But I was pleasantly surprised! He sat on my lap and purred, and only occasionally jerked his paw out of my hand. And to my complete surprise Sophie made an appearance in the office to check out what was going on and to saunter around the room a bit.

I swear they are like different animals this morning. On another note they were going at it full force last night and yesterday while we were doing a bit of unpacking. I may need to rephrase my statement about liking unpacking. I like unpacking things that truly have a place. The junk mass of my husband's things that didn't really have a place before and still don't are not fun to unpack at all. The organization of the kitchen, however, was awesome.

I plan to have a post later this week about how the cats handled the move later this week. I'm sure you can guess how Ivan did.

Project 52! Twenty Nine

Thanks to my parents we were able to spend four days and nights in the coast of Destin Beach! We ended up not having the best weather, the water was full of seaweed, and we got some minor sunburns; but we still had fun. On our last full day there was a red flag out (which means that the water is really rough and there is a strong under current with possible rip tides, swimming isn't really recommended) we went in any way and a good time jumping through the waves and then I lost my sunglasses. I know better than to wear fancy sunglasses like my Armani's but they were all I had. Now I'm rocking some cheap ones from Kohl's. Oh well.

Yesterday evening we were sitting on the beach enjoying the breeze and view when my husband said, "I was just thinking about how much I don't want to go home, but then it hit me that we're only a 10 minute drive from this view!"

Now back to unpacking...

Project 52! Twenty Eight

The MOVE!!!!!
That's right the dreaded move that I have been talking about for what seem like forever is finally here. And was also the cause of this post being a tad behind schedule. But real life has to happen before I can blog about it and the blog is definitely second to real life.

The move was epic and if we have to opportunity of having the military  move us in the future we won't even think twice! It was no fun at all and it took us about six days to finish it all and we had too many night of far less than adequate sleep (at the beginning we were running on less than 13 total hours slept in a 72 hour period, fun stuff!)

But the important thing is that we made in one piece and we're still married and alive (haha!)

Here are the stats: 6 days, 1461 miles, 2 moving trucks, 27 hours driving (most of that with very little sleep... I don't suggest that), about 15000 pounds of stuff.

While we were getting everything out of the house Ivan was forced to stay in our bed room so that he wouldn't escape. At first he loved it but that lasted about 30 minutes. In case you can't tell this is a kitty pout face.

Our new kitchen full of boxes and news paper. I seriously spent the bulk of Saturday organizing the kitchen. I'm a little OCD about organization. I hide it well with messiness, because for me it's all or nothing. Hopefully starting from scratch (and not working) will make keeping the house perfect just that much easier!

And now it's all neat and tidy! And Organized! I had a hard time figuring out the coffee situation because I wanted the coffee pot near the mugs and the beans and filters. My other dilemma was keeping the kitchen easy to move around in since my husband gets irritated when we get in each others way. The Solution was to move the coffee pot and accessories to the side opposite the stove and put the filters and coffee in the drawer below/ (we basically tripled the amount of drawers we had and I didn't know what to do with them all!)

Now I have to take care of some business with the lease and pack because my wonderful parents have gifted us a trip to the beach. (I know we live 10 minutes from the beach, it seems a little silly.) But I'm not complaining! Destin beach here we come!

Fourth Fun!

We celebrated the Fourth with my family at my sisters house and had a fabulous time celebrating with family and at this point all the time I get to spend with these little ones matters! The night before I baked cupcakes and iced them in the morning before heading out for the day.

I had a great idea to add pop rocks to the top, but they start to melt really fast . In the future if I choose to add them to cupcakes I'll add them right before serving.

Some pictures of Bug and Little Man playing in their pool. Bug had to wait for Little Man to wake up from nap before she was allowed to get in the pool. Right before he woke up she "accidentally" fell in. LOL!

And some pics of the Littles enjoying my cupcakes!

Now back to packing!

Project 52! Twenty Seven

Some moments in life call for a quick picture snapped through the window even if the camera just wants to focus on the screen. I'm going to miss these little ones so much! I have to get my time in while I can! Also it turns out that the car's battery was dead (shocker!), but they popped hood like little mechanics and it was precious!

And we're halfway through this year can you believe it! And the last P52 post will be the last one with the "Life is..." title. It was getting harder each week to come up with new headings. Stick with me the fun isn't over yet! Not by a long shot!

Project 52! Twenty Six

Life is a BEACH!!!!!

Something weird happened to the picture... There are rarely swells on the Gulf coast. And that is my husband in the edge of the picture.

This week ended a little crazier than anticipated... Earlier in the week I called a rental agency about a house that we were interested in renting and they said that the house would be available to look at on Monday of the following week. That was perfect and we made plans to stay with one of Tye's friends that lives in the area. However, on Thursday morning the called to let me know that they were going to start showing the house in about 30 minutes. Since we live 8-9 hours away there was no way we'd get therein time. They said that if no one else put in an application by 5 that they'd call us so that we could make it in for Friday morning.

At quarter to five I called them and we got good news! No applications were put in yet! The plan: quickly pack, drive to my parents, sleep there the remainder of the night, wake up early the next morning be on the road for 5am, and get to the rental agency by 9am.

I over estimated how much time we needed I planned in a sneaky quick trip to the beach, and we had just enough time to get our feet wet and sandy! I just love the perfect blue water and sugar sand beaches of Florida's Gulf coast! And I cannot believe we will be living less than a 10 minute drive from seeing and enjoying this!
